The Platform

Stivini edge

Welcome to the IDEA Documents Platform, which is currently in beta-testing mode. Here you will find thousands of Isabella d’Este’s letters presented in high-resolution images for personal study and classroom use.  IDEA Platform Project scholars and technicians work to optimize the user experience for researchers who access Isabella d’Este’s letters in IDEA, anticipate and address user needs, and facilitate communication within the IDEA environment.

The Documents Platform contains elements both in English and in Italian, but it is designed for advanced researchers who are proficient in Italian and familiar with early modern lexical forms as well as scribal abbreviation practices. Users who are skilled in reading archival documents may consult the Torelli and Luzio Indices provided in our Research Guides to locate particular letters of interest and read them online in enlargeable images. It is also possible to page through series of letters in chronological order, and each user has a personal notepad available in the manuscript viewer. IDEA’s Transcriptions Project group is gradually supplementing these images with accurate transcriptions of individual letters and is adding other metadata, including tags for people, places, and frequent topics mentioned in the letters.

To learn how to navigate effectively in the IDEA Platform, please read the User Guide with care.
